Add media files from an external source

You can add multiple video, image, and Flash files that are stored externally to a Play List, however, you must add them one at a time.  The procedure for adding media files to a video Play List is twofold – first you select the type and location of the media files you want to add, then you select the specific media files and configure the settings for the files selected. The procedure for selecting the specific media files is dependent upon whether the files are stored in the software’s Media Library or at an external location.

The procedure for adding media files stored externally is the same regardless of media type, however each media type is added on a page specific to that type as follows:

  • Video files are added on the Add Videos from External Source page
  • Image files are added on the Add Images from External Source page
  • Flash files are added on the Add Flash from External Source page

To select the specific media files and configure the settings for the files selected:

STEP 1: If not already completed, follow the procedure to Add items to a video Play List.

STEP 2: In the Source Location section:

  1. In the Path or URL field, type the path or URL address of the location where the video file is stored followed by the name of the file including the file type extension. (e.g., “C:\Documents and Settings\you.name\My Documents\My Pictures\corporate logo.jpeg”. In order to display correctly, the path or URL and the file name and type entered must be accurate.  As well, the path or URL  must be accessible by the Appliance that will be used to display the selected images.
  2. In the File Type field, click to select the file type of the specified image file:
For video, file types include .avi, .mp3, .mpeg, .mpg, .wmv
For image, file types include .bmp, .gif, .jpeg, .jpg, .png
For Flash, file types include .swf
  3. In the Name field, type a name for the file. This can be the current name of the file (e.g., corporate logo) or it can be a new name that you want to assign to the file for this purpose (e.g., Rise Vision logo animation). The name you assign is the name that will appear in the Name field of the Play List to which it is being added.
  4. (Optional) If you know the resolution of the selected file, specify it in the Width and Height fields. If you do not specify a Width and Height resolution, the resolution for the file will display as 0×0 in the Play List.
  5. Click the Select button to select the specified file. The selected file is added to the Selected <Videos, Images, Flash> box.
  6. (Optional) To add another file stored externally, repeat STEP 1 and all above steps of STEP 2.

STEP 3: In the Size and Position section:

  1. (Optional) If you want to scale the size of the file(s) selected, do one of the following:
To scale files by a specific value, type the value by which you want to scale the files in the "Scale Factor" field. The specified scale factor will be applied to all selected files. The default is 100.
To scale the selected file(s) to fit the available Placeholder area in which they will be displayed, check "Scale to Fit".
  2. (Optional) By default, all selected files will be centered within the Placeholder area in which they are displayed. If you want to specify a position for the file(s) to be displayed, click the Position field to select the desired position (e.g., Top Left, Top, Top Right, etc.)
  3. (For video files only) By default, the volume level for all selected video files is set to 100 (loudest).  To change the volume level for sound, specify a value between 0-100 in the Volume field (0=no sound, 100=loudest).  To play sound, the selected displays must have speakers attached to them.

STEP 4: In the Sequence and Schedule section:

  1. In the Play Sequence field, type the position the file should take in the Play List sequence. The number of items currently in the Play List sequence is displayed to the right of the Play Sequence field (i.e., if this is the third item to be added to a Play List it will display “3 of 2″).
  2. In the Duration field, type the number of seconds for which the file should display onscreen. The default setting is 10 seconds.
  3. By default, all new Play List Items are scheduled to display 24/7 (24 hours/day, 7 days/week, beginning the date the Play List is approved, or if the Play List is approved, the date the content item is created). To create a specific display schedule for this Play List Item, click Use Schedule to display the scheduling options, then specify a schedule for the item.

STEP 5: In the Logging section:

  1. (Optional) Click the Enable Logging checkbox to enable logging for the Media File. This enables Proof of Play, where you can run a Proof of Play report on the run time data for the Media File as a Play List item.
  2. Click Save or Save & Close.
