Create and manage Media Library folders

Folders help you group and organize your media files and make it easier to find specific media files quickly. You add a new folder from the Media Library page. New folders are created as subfolders within the My Files folder.

Only a Content Administrator or a Content Editor can create a new folder in the Media Library.

To create a new folder: 

  1. On the Content tab, click Media Library.
  2. On the Media Library page, click Add Folder. By default, the new folder is created as a subfolder in the My Files folder.
  3. The Current Location field displays the folder in which the new folder will be created (e.g., My Files).
  4. In the Folder Name field, type a name for the folder you want to create (e.g., “Flash files” or “Logo files”).
  5. Click Create

To create a new folder in a subfolder within the My Files folder:

  1. On the Media Library page, in the Folders section, click on the subfolder in which you want to create a new folder.
  2. Follows steps 2 to 4 above to create the new folder.

NOTE:

If you have both ticker and video displays on your network, create separate folders and subfolders for video images (e.g., Video Images) and for ticker images (e.g., 24 High Tricolor Images, 16 High Tricolor Images, etc.)

To change the location of a folder

In addition to creating new folders, you can change the structure of the folders you create by moving a subfolder to a different parent folder. By default all folders created will remain as subfolders within the My Files folder.

  1. On the Content tab, click Media Library.
  2. On the Media Library page, in the Folders section, select the folder that you want to move, then click the Manage Folder link. 
  3. On the Manage Folder page, in the Current Location field drop-down menu, click to select the folder to which you want to move this folder.
  4. Click Save or Save & Close.

To move a media file to a folder

You can move a media file from one folder to another.

  1. On the Content tab, click Media Library.
  2. On the Media Library page, click on the media file you want to move. The Manage Media File page for the file displays.
  3. On the Manage Media File page, click on the Current Location field drop-down and select the folder to which you want to move the media file.
  4. Click Save or Save & Close.

To rename a folder

You can modify or completely rename an existing folder, however you cannot rename the My Files folder.

  1. On the Content tab, click Media Library.
  2. In the Folders section, click to select the folder you want to rename, then click the Manage Folder link.
  3. On the Manage Folder page, the name of the selected folder will display in the Folder Name field. Edit the name as desired.
  4. Click Save or Save & Close.

To delete a folder

Only a Content Administrator can delete a folder from the Media Library.

  1. On the Content tab, click Media Library.
  2. Select the folder you want to delete, then click the Manage Folder link.
  3. On the Manage Folder page, click the Delete link.

NOTE:

  • If the folder you want to delete contains a media file that is currently assigned to a Play List, then the selected folder cannot be deleted.
  • If you delete a folder containing media files, those media files will be deleted along with the folder.
  • The My Files and Shared folders cannt be deleted.
