We get a lot of people asking us what this error is: "IM error: Bad host im.risedisplaynetwork.com", and if it means anything specific.
The error occurs when the Alerts service cannot connect with the Alerts portion of the Rise Display Network which is available at im.risedisplaynetwork.com, and therefore no alerts are going to show on the appliance that is having these errors. The reason that the Alerts service cannot connect is usually due to a firewall or proxy server blocking port 5222 from connecting inbound and outbound with im.risedisplaynetwork.com.
To correct this, simply add a rule to your firewall to allow im.risedisplaynetwork.com to connect to port 5222 on the appliance, or in some cases it may be better to just turn the firewall off completely.
